Selected Works 2021-2026

Katana Sol’s visual practice moves across painting, illustration, public art, textiles, natural dye, and immersive installation.

Rooted in storytelling and world-building, the work explores relationships between memory, ecology, identity, spirituality, and collective imagination.

Across intimate drawings and large-scale public works, Sol uses image, material, color, and environment to create spaces for reflection, connection, and possibility.

Installation | Immersive Work

The Kelp Forest

The Kelp Forest is an immersive installation exploring radical interconnectedness through the metaphor of an underwater ecosystem.

Layered textiles, natural dye, projection, sound, and sculptural forms transform the gallery into an environment for rest, reflection, and discovery. The project brings together ecological relationships, cultural memory, community storytelling, and the idea that individual lives exist within larger interconnected systems.

Mi Amor Por Ti Es Verte Crecer

2025
Acrylic mural · 4 × 8 ft
Mi Centro · Tacoma, WA

Mi Amor Por Ti Es Verte Crecer tells the story of a woman born from the stars and sent to Nepantla in search of a lesson to bring home.

After years spent cultivating plant life and living alone, she discovers a kitten trapped among the needles of her otherworldly cacti. As she removes each needle, they magically become whiskers, giving the kitten sensitivity, feeling, and its first tears.

Believing she must surrender the love she has found, the woman prepares to return the kitten to the heavens. Instead, the planets appear across his body—a sign that he is to remain her familiar.

Her lesson is companionship; her reward is love.

Created for Mi Centro, the mural draws from mythology and storytelling to explore family, loss, emotional reconnection, safety, and finding belonging in the care of another. The story was also inspired by Sol’s grandmother and the feeling of safety found in returning to her arms.

For the lesson was companionship, and the reward was love.
